Arachnid

I am amazed
By her beauty.
Her round firm body,
Black and shiny,
With long slender legs
That give her
The appearance
Of prancing
As she walks.
The splash of red
On her back
Glows in the sun.
I am mesmerised
by her,
She is small,
Dainty,
And
Deadly.

Reflections

Mirrored pools of
Still water.
Clear, crisp,
Upside down images
Reflecting back
From the depths,
Broken only by
Ever widening
Ripples.

Dawn in the Southern Skies

The grey light of dawn
Pushes slowly upwards
As the sun like a golden orb
Rises in the eastern sky.
Its gentle rays
Spreading outwards
Like a web
Transforming the once
Silhouetted shapes with
Life and colour.
The birds once silent
Stir,
Their songs of praise
Build to a
Deafening crescendo,
Then just as quickly
fade
As the sleepy world
Wakens.

Travelling Home

It is evening and the workers wend their weary way home.
The train rattles along the track
Passing industrial areas and sprawling suburbia.
Someone yawns,
Another coughs,
There is a soft snore from a passenger sleeping.
However, as we travel,
Not many are aware
That to the west the sun is setting.
The colours pass through many hues,
Gold, red and deepening blue
Standing out brilliantly against the darkening sky.
I want to shout out
Open your eyes,
Look at the beauty around you!
But I quietly watch the ever changing scene,
Until the sun slips over the horizon
And is no more.

"Untitled #2"

The icy fingers of the morning wrap around me
As I step out of my warm bed.
Shivering, I put on my slippers
And, pulling on my dressing gown,
Go quietly downstairs.
There is a hush over the home as the family sleeps on,
Even the dogs are quiet.
I make myself a welcome cup of coffee.
The darkness of the sky hangs low on the horizon,
The dawn is not far away.
I have my breakfast, shower and dress,
I must be away early
And I slip quietly out of the house
And into the dew laden car
The sky is beginning to lighten.
I pause, start the engine,
Then once more I'm on my way to work
And I'm thankful it is Friday.

"Untitled #3"

I stood alone in the kitchen
In the still grey hush of morning,
Tears streaming down my face
And a large knife in my hand.
Surely there's got to be a better way
To chop onions!

"Untitled #4"

Did you see the sky tonight?
Blood red circle
Dipping downwards
Over the horizon.
The sky a pastel pink.
Grey clouds
Flecked with gold.
I saw it,
And thought of you.

Together

Growing old together
Should be a time of
sharing hopes and dreams.
A time when there is
Peace and contentment,
Of enjoying life
To the full.
But, what of those
Who have no one
To share with?
Will it be a time of
Loneliness,
Holding onto past memories
And unrealistic dreams,
Or will there be new challenges,
New dreams to store
In that secret place
Of the heart.

Where has love gone?

It began as a budding flower
Being nurtured and tended daily
With tender care.
It grew and blossomed
Until it burst into glorious bloom,
With all its radiance and passion.
But, where has love gone?
Like the flower
It has lost its radiance
And has wilted.
No longer the vibrancy of life
But the dry and papery petals
Of a love that has withered.
Why has love gone?

Tears

Wet,
Warm,
Coursing
Down
The furrows
Of my cheeks.
Silently,
Privately,
Longing
For
A
Shoulder
To
Cry on.
Healing
The
Hurting
Deep within.

Anticipated Submission

She awaits his coming
By the sapphire waters
Of the Aegean Sea.
Will he come tonight?

She has well prepared
To meet him.
Her skin has a soft lustre
In the moonlight
And is delicately perfumed
To entice him,
She is adorned in a soft
Diaphanous gown
That billows softly
In the breeze.
Her bare toes
Sink into the warm white sand
As she waits and wonders
Will it be tonight?

Her eyes sparkle with
Anticipation and excitement
Her full lips part gently
As though
Already tasting his
First sweet kiss.
She is ready to meet him
By those cool
Aegean waters
And wonders,
Will it be soon?
