John L. Liebenthal


Jack Liebenthal was employed at the National Reactor Testing Station, later the Idaho National Engineering Laboratury, then the Idaho National Environmental and Engineering Laboratory, and now the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) from 1957 to 1992.

Over that time he:

    * worked in test reactor analysis, design, and facilities engineering; in reactor and non- reactor thermal, fluids, and safety analysis
    * managed a thermal-fluids, structural, and materials organization, an alternate energies analysis organization, and an advanced thermal and fluid dynamics organization
    * sat on safety review panels
    * participated in test reactor conceptual designs
    * from May 1986 served with DOE on-site-review teams examining the safety of DOE facilities: Technical Safety Reviews, Design Reviews, and Tiger Teams
    * managed a group providing engineering support functions to DOE HQ
    * was a founding director of the Safety Analysis Working Group (SAWG) of the Energy Facilities Contractors Group (EFCOG)

Since leaving INEL, he has served as reviewer or advisor on nuclear safety documentation, SAR training, Facility Safety Analysis, and Hazard Categorization, and nuclear safety consultant in a lawsuit involving waste management.
