      "Scratches" tends to persist and to reoccur frequently, especially in horses with white feet and faces.  Treatments are numerous, costly and often hazardous.  They  include:  soaking, scraping, wrapping and scrubbing,  DMSO,  livestock wormers, zinc oxide ointment, steroid ointment, iodine compounds, chlorine bleach and other products, alone or in combination.  Other remedies such as: vinegar, honey, cayenne pepper, used motor oil, axle grease, colloidal silver, sauerkraut and many other "natural" or  "herbal" products, "healing oils" or industrial remedies!  Most of  these treatments are eventually unsuccessful and can be irritating or harmful to both horse and owner.
